Some names in today's Times News. Don't recognize but 2 of the names. It is a shame that a community as small as Wise County is, that we have such a big drug problem. I agree, that there needs to be a couple of doctors on that indictment list for giving those things out like candy.
WISE ? Authorities launched the latest roundup of 50 individuals facing a variety of drug-related offenses in Wise County on Wednesday.
Law enforcement agencies engaged in the mass arrest include the Wise County Sheriff?s Office, Southwest Narcotics Task Force, Virginia State Police, and the police departments of Appalachia, Big Stone Gap and Coeburn.
The 50 people indicted by the multi-jurisdictional grand jury on drug charges were being sought in the towns of Wise, Coeburn and Big Stone Gap as well as the city of Norton.
Since authorities launched ongoing investigations and mass roundups of suspected drug offenders in 2005, charges have been brought and adjudicated against more than 500 individuals in Wise County.
?We are lucky to have law enforcement agencies in Wise County that work so well together. These agencies are dedicated to continue the fight to keep drugs off our streets and out of our communities,? said Wise County Commonwealth?s Attorney Ron Elkins. ?These types of investigations take a lot of time, manpower, teamwork and dedication. I appreciate all their efforts.?
Those taken into custody and processed into the court system by 3:30 p.m. Wednesday included:
? Cleveland Paul Harper Jr., 42, 739 Hurricane Road and 8227 Crabtree Road, Wise, charged by the grand jury with distribution of cocaine and oxycodone and conspiracy to distribute oxycodone.
? Patsy Ann Motz, 47, Old Hurricane Road, Lot 1, Wise, charged with distribution of oxycodone.
? Donica Jae Boring, 20, 210 E. Second St. North, Big Stone Gap, charged with distribution of hydrocodone.
? Debra Jean Bush, 45, 339 Third Ave. East, Big Stone Gap, charged with distribution of oxycodone and hydrocodone.
? Barry Lee Horner, 46, 1511 B. Dawson Ave. West, Big Stone Gap, charged with distribution of buprenorphine.
? Christopher Brian Peace, 26, 1614 Derby Road, Appalachia, charged with distribution of hydrocodone.

the court system pages are towards the back, that is where the names should be IMO
If this was underage possession of alcohol or marijuana I'd agree but these aren't minor drugs or small misdemeanors.

what is a minor drug? how do you differentiate?
DUI's, assault and batterey, child negligence, etc.. are all on the court pages, but drug indictments are different?

Not all assaults, dui's, child neglect, etc are on the back pages. It's really a product of our culture and Ron Elkins (who I like) trying to get a good name for himself by "cleaning up the streets". I see your point but to me if you are involved with something like this you really can't gripe where they put it in the paper. If I go out and get a DUI tonight the only person I have to blame is myself, not the coalfield progress for putting it on the front page.
